About Vienna Grand Tours

About Vienna Grand Tours

A small, owner-guided tour business on the Ringstrasse — and a fleet of vintage-style electric vehicles that made it possible.

The story

A note from the founder

I grew up a couple of tram stops from the Ring, and for years I watched visitors arrive, photograph the Opera and leave again without ever hearing why any of it stands where it does. I was working in a different industry at the time. The city kept nagging at me.

When I finally started Vienna Grand Tours, I wanted the opposite of a coach: one small car, one group at a time, no microphone and no fixed script. I built a fleet of vintage-styled electric vehicles — forest green, white and burgundy — and spent a summer learning which corner of Heldenplatz catches the evening light and which lane behind the cathedral is quiet enough to tell a story in.

That is still how it works. You book the whole car, we agree roughly where to go, and then we go slowly. I would rather show you four places properly than twelve through a window — and if the light is good in front of the Rathaus, we sit there a little longer.

The fleet

Three vintage bodies, all electric underneath

They look like they belong to another century and they run on batteries. There is no engine noise to talk over, nothing to smell at a red light, and — in fair weather — no glass between you and the façades. Guests hear the trams, the fiakers and the guide, in that order.

The sides are open when the weather is kind and covered within a minute when it is not, so a shower changes the mood of a tour rather than cancelling it. Each car seats up to seven guests plus your guide, with room beside them for day bags and camera gear. We assign green, white or burgundy depending on availability — the experience is the same.

In short

  • Fully electric — quiet, and no exhaust in the Old Town
  • Seats up to seven guests plus your guide in each car
  • Open sides in fair weather, weather covers for rain
  • Three colours: deep forest green, white and burgundy
  • Room for day bags, cameras and a folded pram
  • Charged overnight — no emissions on the route

Our promise

What we stand for

  • 01

    Personal care

One group at a time, a host who knows your names by the second stop, and replies to your messages written by a person rather than a queue.

  • 02

    Respect for the city

Electric and quiet, so a residential lane stays a residential lane. We keep to the routes and stops the city allows, and we do not block trams for a photograph.

  • 03

    Honest hospitality

Per-person prices with nothing hidden, a cancellation policy written in plain language, and no shop we are paid to stop at.
